In Tongues (Deluxe Edition) (2018)

Joji

.6

I went into this album with mixed feelings- a sense of nostalgia and hope for Pink Guy and his legacy, as well as some disdain for George "Joji" Miller's debut album that just completely strays from form.

I'm not saying it's bad, it has standout beat moments, and Joji does an excellent job of encapsulating moments of pain, lonliness, depression, and the like with his droning, sad chorused voice and lofi banger beats. However, there is little substance to this album. All lyrics are face value pop-level lyrics venturing into cringy, and while his beats hold a lot of weight, they are very repetetive. The original EP without remixes was only 15 minutes long, so I get to pick on the deluxe edition for having two completely unnecessary renditions of Will He

I liked the Demons remix by Lunice quite a bit, and I am really glad they put both Worldstar Money and I Don't Wanna Waste My Time> on here, but I wish there had been more material and not just 87 remixes.

TLDR: Too repetitive, good sad music. Worth a listen on a rainy day. Literally, a rainy day when you want to off yourself. Miller makes meme music-be it happy, sad, or deranged. -hrl3
